Thinking About a Tub-to-Shower Conversion? Here’s What You Need to Know

Ditch the Old, Cracked Tub with A Modern Walk-In Shower  Do you want to incorporate a sleeker shower design into your home? Or do you hate stepping over the walls of your tub every day? Then you might want to consider a tub-to-shower conversion. Many homeowners today are upgrading to more modern, practical showers and never turning back. Learn why they’re doing this and how you can enjoy all the benefits of a tub-to-shower conversion. Why More Homeowners Are Making the Switch Nowadays, more and more people are swapping their bulky, outdated bathtubs for the convenience of a walk-in shower. Why is that? Let’s break down some of the top shower remodel benefits: Space-Saving Benefits of a Walk-In Shower Too many people make do with cramped bathrooms that simply aren’t comfortable or convenient. Ditching that old bathtub is a fantastic way to free up space in your bathroom, both physically and visually. With a walk-in shower, you’ll save on floor space and give yourself more options for expanded storage or decor. Walk-in showers can be customized to fit in different spaces. You aren’t restricted to a rectangular tub shape! Another factor to consider is that with the extra space, you can install accessibility features like ramps or benches. If you’re planning to age in place, a walk-in shower can be a great investment in safety and peace of mind. Finally, a walk-in shower with glass panels will better accent natural light and make your bathroom feel more spacious. Even if the shower has the same footprint as your old tub, the change in lighting can make the room appear so much bigger.  Costs & Considerations for Tub Conversions Before you pull the plug on your old bathtub, you should be aware of the cost of a tub-to-shower conversion and the factors that affect that cost. The first is the removal of your current tub. If it’s particularly old or in rough shape, you may have to rectify hidden issues like mold or water damage before you can put the new shower in. You’ll also need to plan for plumbing costs, especially if pipes need to be rerouted. The shower itself can vary greatly in price, too. For instance, the pan, or the floor of the shower, can come in an inexpensive pre-formed design, or you can opt for a more expensive custom or curbless design. The wall tiles you choose will also greatly affect the overall cost of the shower. Basic acrylic or fiberglass tiles are cost-effective, but they don’t have the same aesthetic appeal as other styles, such as stone or porcelain. It’s also essential to consider the costs of proper waterproofing and code compliance. You never want to cut corners in these areas, as minor “savings” today can lead to huge costs down the line. Lastly, you’ll have to consider extra features like benches, niches, and special doors that can all increase the cost of your shower. At the end of the day, the cost of a tub-to-shower conversion varies greatly, but this variability allows you to invest in what’s important and save money on the rest. Your Bathtub Might Be Done For—7 Signs It’s Time for a Replacement

Cracks, Chips, or Leaks? Your Bathtub’s Surface Is Failing When you step into your bathtub, are you more worried than relaxed? Whether your tub’s aesthetic is stuck in the last century or you’re worried about structural deformities, there comes a time when that old bathtub just doesn’t cut it anymore. And once that happens, it’s time to take a deep breath, call an expert, and embrace the benefits of tub remodeling. At Nu-Face Home Improvements, we specialize in professional bathtub replacements throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts — offering fast, clean installations using Luxury Bath by Bath Concepts, featuring Microban® antimicrobial protection. Our systems resist stains, mold, and mildew while providing a fresh, modern look you can enjoy immediately. But first things first. If you’re on the fence about replacing your bathtub, here are seven signs that you should look for to help you decide if now is the right time. 1. Severe Cracks or Chips Small cracks or chips in your bathtub can form from general wear and tear or accidents. While the damage might seem small at first, cracks and chips inevitably grow into larger problems and can pose serious risks! Cracks and chips can easily harm you directly, but even if they don’t, they can allow water to seep into the structure of your tub and cause structural issues. Sometimes, the damage you see can be repaired, but if it’s deep, you won’t want to take any chances. Opt for an old bathtub replacement instead.  While some surface-level damage can be repaired, deep cracks or repeated chipping are a sign it’s time for a full replacement. Today’s materials — like Luxury Bath’s durable acrylic — are built to resist damage far better than older fiberglass or porcelain tubs. 2. Structural Damage As mentioned before, cracks and chips can potentially lead to structural damage, but what exactly is structural damage? Simply put, structural damage happens when the base, support, or subfloor of the tub is compromised. You can spot this damage in a number of ways: In these cases, repairing the tub alone won’t help. A full replacement is the safest option. Solid surface systems like the Onyx Collection provide lasting strength and a seamless, modern finish for long-term use. 3. Stubborn Stains or Discoloration Over time, the minerals found in water, along with chemicals from your hygiene products like shampoo and soap, will inevitably take a toll on your bathtub’s appearance. While cleaning obviously helps to keep your bathtub looking great, there comes a point where the protective coating wears out and stains set in. At this point, it’ll take much more than elbow grease to restore the tub’s beauty. When that happens, it’s time to look at a non-porous, stain-resistant replacement. Our Luxury Bath systems are infused with Microban®, which keeps surfaces looking fresh by actively resisting bacterial buildup and discoloration. The result? A tub that stays cleaner between cleanings — no heavy-duty scrubbing required. Prefer a matte or stone-look finish? The Onyx Collection offers a beautiful matte or glossy solid surface with a luxury feel that resists discoloration and is easy to maintain. 4. Persistent Leaks and Water Damage Everyone knows that leaks are a bad sign, and they can be difficult to spot at times. If you notice a leak and don’t know how to repair it, it’s important to stop using the tub and replace it right away. Look for leaks around the drain or faucet, behind wall tiles, and around the base of the tub. All of these can not only ruin your tub but also cause costly damage to your whole bathroom. 5. Rough Texture Bathtubs are meant to feel smooth and comfortable when we use them. But one common sign of an old, failing bathtub is a scratchy or grainy surface. This usually happens when the finish has eroded and microscopic damage, usually caused by cleaning abrasives, has built up. Besides feeling uncomfortable, this rough surface is a haven for bacteria, mold, and mildew. It’s a definite sign that it’s time for tub replacement. 6. Mold or Mildew Growth Speaking of mold and mildew, rough surfaces aren’t the only place they can grow. Mold and mildew can also find their way into grout, caulk, and the spaces in and around the tub itself. If undiscovered, mildew can quickly evolve into mold and negatively affect your indoor air quality and health.  Our modern tub systems like those from Luxury Bath and The Onyx Collection are grout-free and easy to seal, helping to prevent mold before it starts. 7. Loss of Comfort and Safety Your comfort, health, and safety are never negotiable. If you find it too difficult to get in and out of your tub or if it has failing features, like worn grips or a slippery bottom, you should seriously think about replacing it. That way, you’ll be able to install a tub that fits your needs, has better safety features, and is simply more comfortable for you to use! When to Replace Your Bathtub Not every imperfection means that you need to buy a new tub right away. If you notice minor flaws, simple repairs may be enough to make the tub pleasant and safe again. However, if you notice several of the signs above, a full bathtub replacement is probably necessary. That said, even one sign can indicate the need for a replacement, especially if it involves serious structural damage, leaks, or risks to your safety. Keep in mind too that repairs can add up and make it more sensible to spend just a little bit more on a replacement.  Benefits of Bathtub Replacement Thinking of taking the plunge into a new bathtub? Nu-Face Home Improvements and Make-A-Wish® Foundation Unveil Custom Treehouse for Meriden Girl

Meriden, CT — August 23, 2025 — On Saturday, August 23rd at 12:00 p.m., Nu-Face Home Improvements, in proud partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, will unveil a one-of-a-kind custom treehouse for a very special young girl in Meriden, Connecticut. What began as a dream in the spring has grown into a remarkable project—a true labor of love. More than 10 Nu-Face volunteers braved the summer heat to bring this vision to life. The result: a royal blue castle nestled high among the trees, perched on a 10-foot platform deck that overlooks her backyard. With generous support from valued vendor partners—including Direct Advantage, Hearst Media, Wolf Products, Alside Building Products, Tag Team Media, Forestville Lumber, and CT Siding—the Nu-Face team built a fully customized structure from the ground up. Outfitted with roofing, windows, siding, and doors, the treehouse also features a commercial-grade slide, climbing challenges, and even a special ramp designed so her dog can join her in her castle in the sky. “This project has been unlike anything we’ve done before,” said Joe DeCiuceis, owner. “While we’ve helped thousands of Connecticut homeowners transform their houses, this was truly the most rewarding build in our company’s history.” To preserve the magic of the surprise, the Make-A-Wish honoree stayed away from the construction site for weeks, with the help of her parents’ clever distractions. Saturday’s unveiling will mark the joyful moment when she sees her dream treehouse for the very first time, followed by a private celebration with the Nu-Face crew, family, and supporters. Nu-Face credits the success of the project to the dedication of master installer Dave Podchaiski, along with team members Brad and Ricky, organizer Anne, and countless employees who generously volunteered their time, resources, and expertise. As a family-owned and operated business, Nu-Face Home Improvements is honored to partner with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and looks forward to future opportunities to give back in meaningful ways. The unveiling was a magical day with over 30 members of her family, and almost 20 members of the Nu-Face Team. She arrived blindfolded at noon,  guided on each arm by her mother and father, to the bottom stair of her Tree House where members of the Make A Wish and Nu-Face Teams eagerly waited to show her all the magic. Toys, gadgets, art supplies, furniture and snacks awaited her inside her new resort among the trees. She and her friends immediately began exploring, playing, running, and climbing. The kids and adults all made a point to test out the gigantic blue spiral slide, culminating in laughter and fun after completing a truly magical project from Nu-Face Home Improvements.
